Each LIOR GUIDE is a complete fully executable application made with Authorware® (Macromedia - Adobe), only requiring a resident Quicktime® version for the functioning of the videos in the Guides.

When downloading the files (which can take up to 30 min. according to the speed of your Internet connection - must be broadband ADSL or cable), you will need at least 1 or 2 GB (according to sector) space available on your hard disk. Prepare a specific folder to download it into. When the file is unzipped, it is recommended to burn a CD-ROM (containing ONLY the unzipped files) in order to secure this precious data that you will no doubt use for many years. Use One CD-ROM per Guide. Do burn on DVDs.

In general the navigation through the LIOR data is very plain and easy to discover: when the cursor changes while moving over items in the screens, it means something is linked: a link to another screen, an explanation or a video. The videos, as a rule, appear in the screens as a picture surrounded by a red frame: click on the picture, and then the arrow, press the square to stop it. In some CDs, videos appear in a list: click on the number or a picture: the instruction is in the screen.

1. Normally the Application starts automatically. depending on the PC, it may take some time to satrt the first time. Click only once and be patient. (It's looking for the Quicktime® on the PC and loading the video/audio files)
2. If it doesn’t, open the file in which you have stored it.
3. Double click the title then click “START.bat”,
4. You may also start it by going into the “DATA’ file, find the .exe file, click.
5. On the first screen select:
- “VIEW CD-ROM”, if you have a recent Quicktime®
- “Install Quicktime®”, if you don’t have it installed on your PC;
- Follow the instructions on the screen (No need to fill in any ID or N°)
- If you have an old Quicktime®, it is preferable to uninstall the old one before installing a new one (Start Menu, Control Panel, Add/remove programs)
6. On the CD-ROM, you will find a “Readme file”, or a printable “Instructions for CD-ROM use”. with short explanations.
7. In the screen, at the bottom left corner, click “?” for help on the navigation. In the "Paths" module, "Build your own Path": click on the "?" for full explanations.

Same installation setup as above. After the introduction select first to go to the "Knowledge Area". Choose a sector in the first dropdown menu and explore all the different sections successively. At the end of each section there is a "Quiz" to answer.

The ECO-VILLAGE game is the application of the knowledge data. PLease read the instruction on the screen or as a Word document (on the CD) or print it - and the Game is easy to play and can be played in teams (from a class, for instance) to make it a contest. Complex hidden calculations based on real economic facts are inbedded in this instructive game.

We are a University (or Public Authority) and our administration does not use Credit Cards, how can be buy the Guides or CD-ROMs?
The most frequent solution used with Universities, is an e-mail order and we send you a Pro-forma invoice. For the pre-payment procedure: One of 3 ways depending on the urgency of the need for the material:

1. The Professor requiring the Guides provides his own Credit Card data and gets refunded by the University upon receipt of the goods. Ordered CD-ROMs get shipped immediately by priority mail and you have them in 2-3 days or you choose for a downloading solution and we send a pdf invoice.
2. You use the Pro-forma invoice to introduce your request for purchasing at the University Administration, who makes the international banktransfer directly to us, which takes 2-3 days with the IBAN / BIC International Code system and we immediately do the shipping. Depending on the time it takes for the administration to make the payment... there are a few days (or weeks extra to wait for the material).

3. The 3rd alternative is to make this order to your local booksupplier, who orders it with us (and pays by credit card) and the shipment follows as above. This will not only take almost the same time as the University Administration solution, but it will cost more since the shop usually put on an extra markup.

The Application or CD-ROM does not start? Rarely, depending on the age of the PC and the installation of the Quicktime®, a difficulty in starting the Application or CD-ROM may occur: it is always due to a Quicktime® version problem. It easily gets solved by uninstalling the existing Quicktime® and downloading a latest version from the Apple® website: it is free. This software is used to activate the heavy video and audio files at the start. This is why it takes a while to start, the first time the Guides are used. This slow start often makes the user click over and over, which starts the Application at each click and makes it even heavier to start (particularly for older machines or PCs running several softwares at the same time). So click ONCE and wait a bit, you will see a sign (Authorware Attain logo) appearing in your bottom navigation bar: it's on its way!

What about Updates? a new section will be organised on this website in which updates of the different sections will be available for free to the LIOR Customers. Therefor it is important that you should keep your login and password for future access.

Is it possible to change the size of the screens? The actual screen size within the Guides is of 640x480 dpi. The screens can be enlarged on the computer screen by changing its 800x600dpi (right click screen, properties, settings, screen resolution). It has been chosen to keep the smaller size of the Guides' screens, because they are mostly used at the same time as other documents being composed or studied. On the present higher resolutions and larger screens allowing several items used at the same time, it has been found more adequate. When the Guides are used with beamers for projections it is not relevant, the distance and lenzes adapt to fully fill the projection screens.
