Gasification technology : Product gas utilisation

Product gas combustion in an engine

The mechanical output of an engine can be calculated by the following formula:

NES

1

SV x 10-3
------
x VE x
----

2

60

MA =
-----------------------------
x CV x D x TE

1 + R

  • Where:SV = Swept volume of the engine in l
  • NES = Nominal engine speed in rpm
  • VE = Volumetric efficiency
  • CV = Heating value of the product gas in MJ/kg
  • D = Specific density of the product gas in kg/Nm3
  • TE = Total efficiency
  • R = Stoichiometric ratio Nm3 air / Nm3 product gas
  • MA = Mechanical output of the engine in kW
  • TAE = Total amount of energy aspirated in kW
  • TFPG = Total flow of producer gas aspirated in the mixture in Nm3/s
  • TFM = Total flow of mixture aspirated in Nm3/s
  • HVSM = Heating value of the stoichiometric mixture product gas / air in MJ/Nm3
You can introduce your own data in the following table:
