BIOMASS COMBUSTION TECHNOLOGY (4)

TOTAL THERMAL POWER OF FUEL

If you know the mass flow rate of the fuel in the combustion unit, the total thermal power of the fuel used is given by the formula:

PHIF = MPB x LCV

Where:

  • PHIF: Total thermal power of the fuel used in the combustion unit in MJ/s or MW
  • MPB: Fuel mass flow rate in kg/s
  • LCV: Lower calorific value of the fuel in kcal/kg or MJ/kg (see also LCV calculation)

You can introduce your own data in the following table:

definition symbol
value
suggested value unit
Fuel mass flow MPB _ kg/s
Lower calorific value of the fuel LCV _ kcal/kg or MJ/kg

Total thermal power of the fuel PHIF   MJ/s or MW
