BIOMASS COMBUSTION TECHNOLOGY (1)

AIR REQUIREMENTS

In a biomass combustion plant the air requirement per kg of fuel is given by the following formula:

l

22,41

8

VL =
-------
x
-------
x (
---
x C + 8 x H + S - O)

0,21

32

3

Where:

  • VL : Air requirement in m3 air/kg fuel
  • l: Ratio theoretical to practical air requirement > 1 normally 1.5 - 2.3 C: Mass fraction of Carbon in the fuelH: Mass fraction of Hydrogen in the fuelS: Mass fraction of Sulphur in the fuelO: Mass fraction of Oxygen in the fuel
  • With the supplementary condition that

C+H+S+O < 1

Some practical values of these data are indicated in the following table
